Severance, a Victorian Vacation Rental, and a Modernist Retreat for Sale
(2/21) Weekend Inspiration from Escape Brooklyn
Hey all, happy Friday!
For our team at EB, it's not just Friday – it's Severance Day – when our group chat explodes with excited messages about its Upstate filming locations. After the bulk of a recent episode (Woe’s Hollow) was shot in Minnewaska State Park Preserve, we were quickly motivated to create a location guide. Hannah tracked down the spots and got in touch with business owners, I handled the visuals and writing, and within a few days we came up with this:
This was so fun to produce, but more than that, it was incredibly satisfying to see how many people love Severance as much as we do! In the world’s kinda-chaotic current condition, it's little local connections like this that bring us joy.
Speaking of which: a portion of tonight's episode will be set in Kingston's own Eng's. We spotted this location early on in the Season 2 teaser, so we're expecting some major plot developments inside this Kingston, NY Chinese restaurant. Also, because we had such a blast with our first location guide, we're planning an expanded version once the season wraps. Know a filming spot we should check out? Drop us a line in the comments!
Just for fun, I’m curious:
(If the Instagram post was any indication, you do love Severance, we’re just looking for some positive reinforcement. 😉)
To our fellow Severance people, enjoy tonight’s show. And to our many Upstate lovers, dive in below to this week’s big features, including a fairytale-like vacation rental in the Delaware River Valley/Catskills area, and a stunning Hudson Valley modern retreat for sale. At the bottom, in case you missed it previously, we’re also including links to EB’s recent features on Upstate’s Coziest, Vibiest Bars + Restaurants.
Stay warm out there,
-Erin + the EB team
Charming 1860’s Boutique Hotel Turned Vacation Rental: The Henderson in Hankins, NY

Victorian grandeur meets Catskills charm at The Henderson in Hankins, NY. 120 miles from NYC, guests are greeted by the soothing sounds of Hankins Creek below the home, plus architectural details of a bygone era.
Inside what was once a boutique hotel, each room tells its own tale: from the maximalist living room with an ornate fireplace, to a spacious chef’s kitchen and dining space, to its bedrooms — all named for flowers, with color palettes to match.

Best of all? Beyond the whimsical interiors, the magic continues outside — to The Henderson’s outdoor kitchen, dual fire pits, and custom stone hot tub (bottom right photo above). We’ve never seen anything like this stone hot tub; this far east, it seems like the closest we’ll get to a hot springs soak this season.

Real Estate: Quarry House in Catskill, NY

Two and a half hours north of NYC, tucked into the serene woods of Catskill, NY, lies Quarry Creek House — a modern home crafted by the minds at Blackstone Builders.
This thoughtfully designed modern home blends modern and rustic styles, merging interior and exterior spaces with organic materials, oversized windows, and large glass doors that offer panoramic views. Additional house features include spa-like bathrooms with walk-in showers, a deep soaking tub, polished concrete floors with radiant heat, a private primary suite, and multiple access points to the balcony and patio.

Outside, start the day with coffee on the full-length balcony, taking in the sounds and views of the forest before wandering down to the creek. Enjoy private water frontage, dips in the swimming hole, and al fresco meals at the creekside dining area; evenings are best spent fireside in the living room, or the back patio near the fire pit.
