Happy July, Escape Club Subscribers!

Summer is in full swing across the Catskills and Hudson Valley. Trails are ready for exploring, rivers are flowing steadily, and the rhythm of the season is settling into weekends filled with hikes, swims, and evenings around a fire. It’s the kind of season that invites both spontaneity and planning β€” and right now, the region is packed with reasons to book a weekend away.

One of the biggest draws this summer is Upstate Art Weekend, running July 17–21. The five-day event spans more than 150 participants, from artist residencies in the western Catskills to contemporary museums and pop-ups throughout the Hudson Valley. For those planning a trip Upstate, it’s an ideal anchor, pairing well with stays at every one of our partners.

Live music also takes center stage this season, with performances unfolding across open-air stages across the region. In Accord, The Wild Honey Pie brings Passion Pit to Stonehill’s Farmhouse on July 24 for an evening of food, music, and low-key dancing under the stars. Two days later, nearby Arrowood Farms welcomes Drive By Truckers and Deer Tick on July 26. Further south, Bethel Woods Center for the Arts rounds out summer with performances by Neil Young, The Black Keys, and Heart in August.

Smaller venues are just as compelling. At Bearsville Theater in Woodstock, Nai Palm (of Hiatus Kaiyote) takes the stage on July 3, while Young the Giant performs on July 15. And over Labor Day Weekend, DromFest returns to Catskill with a weekend-long takeover of indie rock, film, and poetry. Yo La Tengo headlines Saturday night at The Avalon Lounge β€” an early sellout that sets the tone for the rest of the weekend’s lineup.

Not all summer plans need a ticket. In Kingston, Elements of Taste cruises offer a quieter kind of event β€” part sunset sail, part curated tasting led by the team at Kingston Wine Co. With just 24 passengers per ride, the Friday cruises run through September and pair local wines and ciders with views of the Rondout at golden hour.

Elsewhere, summer classics hold strong. For water lovers, there’s Landers River Trips in Narrowsburg, A Day Away Kayak Rentals in Kingston, and Copake Lake Boat & Ski, where pontoon boats, paddleboards, and kayaks are available for rent. As the sun sets, drive-in theaters like Hi-Way in Coxsackie and Four Brothers in Amenia keep the evening energy going with double features, snack bars, and a dose of nostalgia β€” all reminders of how easy it is to fall into the rhythm of an Upstate summer.

Below, you’ll find discounted stays that make it even easier to plan a weekend around any of the above β€” whether it’s a lakefront cabin with paddleboards and a firepit, a boutique hotel/cidery/orchard, or a quiet rental with a pond, a hot tub, and a grill waiting to be fired up.

As always, exclusive discounts and booking codes are below the paywall for our paid members. Subscriptions are $6/month or $60/year, and they help keep our small, women-owned and operated business going. Plus, as always, 1% goes back to the planet. 🌍

See you out there!

Two Good Cabins in Roscoe, NY: Lakeside Cabin Duo for Group Getaways πŸ›Ά 10% Off the Remainder of 2025

Long days at Two Good Cabins unfold lakeside β€” between morning swims, deck lounging, and fire pit conversations as the sun sets. Photos: Clay Banks

Tucked along a peaceful, non-motorized lake just outside Roscoe, Two Good Cabins is a laid-back retreat made for slow mornings, sunset paddles, and starlit evenings by the fire. The setup includes two separate structures β€” a chalet-style main cabin and a guesthouse studio β€” joined by a short path, offering the perfect blend of togetherness and breathing room. Inside, thoughtful details like a stone fireplace, memory-foam-topped beds, and a fully stocked kitchen make it easy to settle in across all seasons.

During the summer, the outdoor setup shines. A large wraparound deck and lakeside dock set the scene for outdoor meals and card games, while kayaks, a paddleboard, and a two-person electric pontoon boat invite slow adventures on the water. Adirondack chairs, lawn games, and a fire pit round out the essentials for a summer well spent. Come winter, the cozy interiors β€” and fireplaces β€” make this lakefront escape just as inviting.

Off the grounds, Roscoe offers just enough to do between long stretches of doing nothing at all. Head to local breweries like Roscoe Beer Co., Catskill Brewery or Upward Brewing for a laid-back afternoon with locally brewed ales, or grab comfort food at The Junction β€” a local favorite for burgers, sandwiches, and wings. Do Good Spirits, set in a former firehouse, distills small-batch vodka and bourbon with seasonal cocktails served on-site. For something quieter, Buck Brook Alpacas offers visits to their working farm, where guests can meet the animals and browse alpaca wool goods in the farm shop. Some shops in town of note include The Hound Books and Taylor + Ace.

Tucked along a quiet bend of Hankins Creek, The Henderson is a restored 1860s Victorian designed for laid-back summer living. The property’s outdoor spaces are its heartbeat β€” from the natural stone hot tub to the outdoor shower, fire pit, and dockside perch on the main pond (there are two.) Mornings start slow on the front porch; evenings can be spent gathering around the fire or dipping into the hot tub as dusk settles across the lawn.
