Howdy – happy Friday!
Erin here, founder and CD at Escape. Writing this week from Mirror Haus II, a *brand new* (I am literally the first guest) vacation rental in Windham.
It’s nice to be in this neck of the woods again; I was able to visit a few other spots I’d been meaning to check out including Gardenheir, Day June Luncheonette, plus The Henson and its restaurant Matilda. On Wednesday night, I had a great dinner at Babbler’s, and was totally shocked how packed their restaurant was on a Wednesday night (was it the $5 margaritas?) All this will get a proper recap soon.
The Mirror Haus is a fitting location from which to share our new Guide to North Adams – perfect for the aesthetically inclined – and detailed below. It’s a little further than most of our destinations, but MASS MoCA makes North Adams a bucket-list location that’s within reach of NYC. Leaving New York State feels like a true escape – and it’s so inspiring that I return every few years. Put this one on your autumn trip list; the Berkshires are beautiful.
Last but not least, it seems like a good time to mention that we’re officially halfway through August – book those end-of-summer trips now, deals included! Below, some recaps of all things Escape this week.
Enjoy,
-Erin, founder and CD at Escape Brooklyn

A Guide to North Adams, Massachusetts
This week we launched the first of a series we’re calling our Local Creatives Guides. In each location we feature, our local creative partners – think chefs, artists and business owners – share their perspective on what makes their town extra special.
To kick off the series, we’re heading to North Adams, MA. Tucked away in the Berkshire Mountains, this weekend escape is equidistant from NYC and Boston, about 175 miles or a three hour drive. Our North Adams, MA Local Creatives Guide comes with intel from Mariah Forstmann, owner of North Adams’ must-visit Mexican restaurant & mezcal bar, Casita.
Use the guide to plan a trip to North Adams: home of the country’s largest contemporary art museum, MASS MoCA, and Mount Greylock, Massachusetts’ tallest mountain. In the guide, Mariah shares local intel on the best places to eat, drink, stay, and get outdoors in this special part of the Berkshires.

Real Estate: A Charming 1880’s Farmhouse in Hamden, NY
Speaking of water, this week’s featured real estate listing comes with the sweetest swimming pond – plus 90 acres of meadow, forest and farmland.
The 1880’s farmhouse house needs some love to be sure – mostly some interior paint jobs unless you’re very fond of purple – but comes with 90 acres. A little artistic vision and updating could make this charming piece of history absolutely soar.
That’s all for this week – catch you next week for a new The Itinerary newsletter, some real estate stuff, and a before/after on a historic cider mill in the Catskills.
