Introducing Homestedt Houses: Your Dream Home in the Catskills
Local design studio Homestedt talks to us about their newest project: building stylish, well-built, energy efficient homes
For years, the mention of “prefab” or “modular” conjured images of icky cookie cutter McMansions, but that time is no more. Nowadays, more and more design-forward prefab and modular companies are popping up, offering a streamlined process for home planning and construction – not to mention far more efficient timelines, and a smaller environmental impact, too.
New on the home building landscape, local design studio Homestedt is hoping to improve the Catskills housing market by creating well-built, energy efficient homes in their signature Scandinavian style.
This Upstate design duo, Anna Åberg and Tom Roberts, are no rookies; they've designed and project managed over a dozen renovation projects in the area over the last few years, including hospitality projects such as Livingston Manor Fly Fishing Club, and The Boarding House at Seminary Hill Cidery. With these projects – plus a handful of others under their belt – Anna, Tom, and their team recently sent their first design, Homestedt House No. 1, to market.
Blackberry House (named after its nearby lake, but in Homestedt House No. 1 design) broke ground in July 2022; by January 2023, it was listed for sale and was in contract in less than a week.
Though it just took a few months to build, Homestedt spent two+ years on the design, perfecting the layout, customizing every detail, and choosing finishes.
Below, we’re highlighting some of our favorite details with some input from the designers – plus how, when, and what you can expect when ordering a Homestedt House.
