Howdy, and happy Wednesday!

Nearly ten years ago, I was a photography student interning at a production studio in Los Angeles. During my off hours, I spent most days exploring the area, and inevitably found myself taking frequent self-guided architecture tours.

Growing up in the foothills of the Pocono Mountains, these tours were my first introductions to true midcentury architecture, which ended up having a pretty substantial influence on my design preferences. It felt like a masterclass in a completely different architectural landscape, and I’ve been thinking about it ever since.

While there are plenty of incredible midcentury homes on the East Coast, there’s something about Southern California builds that feels really different. It could be the rich history the homes have in Old Hollywood – or maybe the otherworldly landscape of sea-meets-mountain-meets-desert – or even the embrace of indoor-outdoor spaces that you can’t quite get on the East Coast.

Whatever it is, I’ve been stuck on it lately, and thanks to our From the Group Chat series, you can be, too!

Below are five homes on the market that capture that SoCal midcentury energy: a sculptural masterpiece on a 40-acre avocado farm, a coastal retreat in Malibu, a quaint cottage and guest house near Pfeiffer Beach, a hillside home overlooking Monterey Bay, and a circular house perched high above the Pacific.

Thanks for indulging the fixation. Let’s get into it.
